28 February 2024: TCEB, in collaboration with Thai professional associations and organisations, announces the success for Thailand during the first 5 months of the fiscal year 2024 after securing bids to host 10 large-scale international conventions.
Mr. Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President, Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB, said: “in response to the Thai government’s policy to promote Thailand as a hub for hosting international conventions and business festivals, TCEB has collaborated closely with Thai professional associations and organisations in bidding for international conventions and the results have been satisfying with a total of 10 bid wins during the first 5 months of the fiscal year 2024”.
Of all 10 wins, 6 are medical conventions while the others are engineering, sustainable development, and women’s rights. It is expected that more than 20,000 delegates will be joining these conventions, generating approximately 17,252 million baht of economic impact.
Mr. Chiruit added that not only the 10 aforementioned international conventions, but TCEB has also been able to support 2 MICE Cities in regional areas of Thailand to attract international conferences which is part of the initiatives to support regional development through MICE industry. The first conference is the Pinnacle Awards Asia Conference 2024 organized by the International Festivals and Events Association – Asia (IFEA – Asia) held in Pattaya, marking the first time it has been hosted outside Korea. The second one is UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy 2024 Conference (CoGs) to be held in Phuket.
Simultaneously, TCEB has supported the organisation of 47 large events or events with over 1,000 delegates, comprising 6 international conventions, 17 mega events and festivals, 6 corporate meetings and incentives, and 18 international exhibitions, three of which are new trade shows. These large events are estimated to generate an economic impact of more than 7.8 billion baht.
Moreover, TCEB is scheduled from March 2024 onwards to support over 30 events with no less than 40,000 attendees, and an estimated economic impact of no less than 2 billion baht.
“The upcoming events that will highlight Thailand’s capability in attracting more events are Money 20/20, the first Fin Tech event in Thailand, and the ASEAN’s first-ever FIFA Congress.”
In the fiscal year 2024, TCEB has set a goal to attract 23.2 million MICE travellers to Thailand, generating 140 billion baht in revenue. Key priorities are attracting quality events and supporting the hosting of conventions in MICE Cities in various regions, which will enable MICE industry’s contribution to national development.
