As of 12 July 2021, Thailand’s vaccination has achieved over 14% of its population, while Thai cabinet has recently approved financial relief of USD 1.4 billion to workers, individuals and entrepreneurs in affected provinces with maximum and strict COVID-19 controls. Simultaneously, the “Phuket Sandbox” project has already welcomed over 5,000 international travellers during this 1-13 July with to-date hotel room booking of 187,265 nights in this July-September, according to the Tourism and Sports Minister. From the survey, these travellers are expected to spend approximately USD 2,800 per person, or around USD 12.5-16 million in total. This clearly reflects the positive trends for the “Thailand Reopens” campaign.
Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB has set forth to reshape a new facet of Thai exhibitions while the country has been reopening. Mr. Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, TCEB President, stated that COVID-19 has called for major changes in structure, technology and professional skills for MICE industry. Across the globe, innovative plans are underway to bring back exhibitions and hybrid events pencil in an important role to create new opportunities that cater to both in-person and virtual experiences.
“TCEB has been providing innovative solutions and vigorous support to Thai MICE industry since its establishment in 2002. We are now looking into the future how to reshape our MICE industry while preparing MICE operators for the ongoing changes with a strategic end-to-end digital transformation.” revealed Mr. Chiruit.
TCEB therefore has formulated “MICE Winnovation” to embrace digital innovation and technology solutions in all aspects of event management for the purpose of business continuity, and long-term competitiveness of Thailand’s MICE industry while creating trade opportunities for start-ups and tech firms. Particularly, 80% of this tool is developed and executed for exhibitions. Currently, those in Health & Tourism, Biofuel & Biochemical, Future Automotive, Food Processing, Integrated Medical Service as well as Aviation & Logistics sectors have been supported in these models: 1. Virtual Booth & Hybrid Event, 2. Live Streaming/ Hybrid Event and 3. Crowd Management.

TCEB’s Post-COVID Proactive Solutions: People Development and Partnership
Although new technologies are being applied to the industry and transforming work processes, skill development is more important for leading the competitive advantage. TCEB is introducing skill development opportunities through the incubation program “EO: Pro LEAGUE” project, a platform for industry professionals to upskill, reskill and leverage themselves with our new-launched comprehensive manual as an essential tool containing useful knowledge and practices in preparation to the coming business opportunities at international exhibitions. A series of joint webinars between Thai Exhibition Association and TCEB as well as online and physical training classes by industry experts will be organized for relevant attendees in the following months.
Moreover, with around 32,000 exhibitions per year, 4.5 million exhibiting businesses, over 303 million visitors around the world and exhibitors and visitors’ combined spending on exhibitions of USD 137 billion, the exhibition industry has proved vital to global economy. TCEB, hence, has provided “Exhibition Clinic Service”, with an aim to prioritize and support for focused industry movement and investment from overseas for business opportunities and trade show development in Thailand.
