Travel Advisory: COVID-19 Virus on 20 February 2021
Regulations, Procedures, Measures and Relaxation for MICE Industry
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has enforced disease prevention measures which have temporarily closed or limited the operation of a wide range of facilities. Some clauses and measures are directly related to MICE industry. Below are summarized and extracted measures for MICE operators to follow:
Exhibition centres, convention centres or trade show venues can operate normally but must execute the following measures:
- 1. Clean all frequently touched surfaces both before and after the service and dispose waste on a daily basis
- 2 .Business owners, staff members, clients and visitors must always wear surgical masks or fabric face masks.
- 3. Set up sufficient hand-washing stations with soap, alcohol gel or disinfectant
- 4. Keep one-meter social distancing practice for seating and standing spots
- 5. Control the number of participants to avoid overcrowding by executing shift schedules. (1 sq m. per person)
- 6. Venue owners or renters or business owners or organisers must register to confirm the compliance with COVID-19 prevention measures stipulated by the government.
- 7. Exercise control over entrance and exit, execute queuing system according to each turn of activities or events and activate registration system for pre-entry and exit. Consider employing technology in organising exhibitions or trade shows and use government’s applications, such as Mor Chana and Thai Chana
- 8. Implement screening system for respiratory symptoms and fever among business owners, staff members, clients and visitors before entering the venues. Provide visible symbols for those who pass the screening. Provide separate room for those with symptoms and install or use data tracking system to track all visitors and report to the authorities in case PUI - Patient Under Investigation - is detected.
- 9. Install ventilation system in the venues, including restrooms. Frequently clean up and disinfect air conditioning system
- 10. Refrain from organising competitions, promotions or any other activities that might create crowds or disorder
- 11. Consider staggered hours system for opening and closing the conventions, meetings, training, seminars, exhibitions, trade shows, catering activities, ceremonies, performances and shows. Provide shuttle service for participants
- 12. Arrange waiting area and queuing area with a clear sign of 1-metre-distance standing spot. Control the situation during entry and exit to avoid overcrowding and disorder
- 13. Provide advice for participants. Supervise, monitor and control the services and activities to prevent close gathering
- 14. Utilise innovation such as, advance registration scheme, online booking system or controlled system for entrance and exit to reduce density so that such innovative systems can be put into long-term operation
Hotel meeting rooms and convention centres can operate normally but the number of participants must be limited to 100 and the following measures must be executed.
- 1. Clean all frequently touched surfaces before and after the service and dispose waste on a daily basis
- 2. Business owners, staff members, clients and visitors must always wear surgical masks or fabric face masks.
- 3. Set up sufficient hand-washing stations with soap, alcohol gel or disinfectant
- 4. Keep social distancing practice: 1.5 metre apart between seating and walking spots. No extra seating or standing spots when reaching the maximum cap
- 5. Control the number of participants to avoid overcrowding, be it at waiting areas, registration desk, parking stamp stations, information centre, and catering stations
- 6. Conduct the registration before entering and exiting the venues and use government applications such as Thai Chana, Mor Chana or exercise control by recording and reporting the data in certain areas.
- 7. Maximum number of participants is 100 persons
- 8. Refrain from co-locating banquets or parties with conferences, training or seminars and speaking loudly in the meeting venues
- 9. Implement screening system for respiratory symptoms and fever among business owners, staff members, clients and visitors before entering the venues. Provide visible symbols for those who pass the screening. Provide separate room for those with symptoms and install or use data tracking system to track all visitors and report to the authorities in case PUI - Patient Under Investigation - is detected.
- 10. Provide tracking system to contact all participants in case infection cases are detected
- 11. Self-service food and beverage stations must be avoided. Service staff members must always wear face masks when in service.
- 12. Install ventilation system in the venues, meeting rooms and restrooms
- 13. Consider providing transportation or shuttle service for participants to reduce risk of infections when using public transportation
- 14. Arrange waiting areas and queuing areas with a clear sign of 1-metre-apart seating and standing spots.
- 15. Provide advice for participants. Supervise, monitor and control the services and meetings to reduce close gathering in order to be strictly in line with the established measures
- 16. Consider using online registration system, including other technological systems to accommodate online meetings
Banquet service establishments, banquet halls and similar establishments The number of participants is limited to 100 at a maximum. Alcohol consumption is not allowed. The following measures must be executed:
- 1. Clean all frequently touched surfaces, including restroom, before and after the service and dispose waste on a daily basis
- 2. Business owners, staff members, clients and participants must always wear surgical masks or fabric face masks.
- 3. Set up sufficient hand-washing stations with soap, or alcohol gel or disinfectant
- 4. Keep at least one-meter social distancing practice for seating and standing spots
- 5. Control the number of participants to avoid overcrowding, consider increasing the walkways. Refrain from activities that may cause crowd gathering or disorder
- 6. Venue owners or renters or entrepreneurs must register to confirm the compliance with COVID-19 prevention measures stipulated by the government.
- 7. Exercise control over entrance and exit, execute queuing system in line with the turn of events or activities, activate registration system for pre-entry and exit from the venue. Consider employing technology in organising exhibitions or trade shows and use government’s applications, such as Mor Chana and Thai Chana

- 10. In case of good ventilation, consider setting up floor plan with 1 empty seat between every 2 seats
- 11. Arrange waiting areas and queuing areas with a clear sign of 1-metre-apart seating/standing spots. Control the situation before entry and exit to avoid overcrowding and disorder
- 12. Consider staggered hours system for catering services or other activities. Provide shuttle service for participants to reduce risk of infection when using public transportation
- 13. Provide advice for participants. Supervise, monitor and control the services and meetings to reduce close gathering in order to be strictly in line with the established measures
- 14. Consider developing such innovation as advance registration scheme or online queuing system to avoid overcrowding so that such new mode of services can be operational in the long-term.
- 15. Provide separate or individual meal
Cinemas, theatres and performance venues must comply with the following measures:
- 1. Clean all frequently touched surfaces, including restroom, before and after the service and dispose waste on a daily basis
- 2. Business owners, staff members, clients and visitors must always wear surgical masks or fabric face masks.
- 3. Set up sufficient hand-washing stations with soap, alcohol gel or disinfectant
- 4. Keep empty every one seat from each other or at least one-meter apart. The exception is audience coming together.
- 5. Control the number of audience to avoid overcrowding. Refrain from conducting any promotion activities or any other activities that may create crowd and disorder
- 6. Venue owners or renters or entrepreneurs must register to confirm the compliance with COVID-19 prevention measures stipulated by the government.
- 7. Control entrance and exit, execute queuing system for each round of performance, use advance registration for entry and exit and use government’s applications, such as Thai Chana, Mor Chana
- 8. Implement screening system for respiratory symptoms and fever among business owners, staff members and clients before entering the venues. Provide visible symbols for those who pass the screening. Provide separate room for those with symptoms and install or use data tracking system to track all visitors and report to the authorities in case PUI - Patient Under Investigation - is detected.
- 9. Install ventilation system in the venues, including restrooms. Frequently clean up and disinfect air conditioning system
- 10. Arrange waiting areas and queuing areas with a clear sign of one-metre distance seating and standing spot. Control the situation during entry and exit to avoid overcrowding and disorder
- 11. Provide advice for participants. Supervise, monitor and control the services and activities to prevent close gathering
- 12. Consider developing such innovation as advance registration scheme, controlled system for entrance and exit to reduce density so that such new mode of services can be operational in the long-term.
